Parents Evening

A massive thank you to all the parents and carers who came to the year 1 parent's evening. We were blown away by your commitment to your child's learning. Thank you for all your support this year.

Here are some of your comments about Hill Mead and your child's learning;

"He has improved a lot and that gives me great pleasure. I want to thank you all."

"She has had a good year in Hill Mead school"

"Since he started in Year 1 I have noticed a lot of change in work and behaviour. He is sounding out words really well and his reading is coming along very well."

"I could not be happier with myself when I make the decision to choose Hill Mead. Well done."

"I have no further comment except my daughter is happy."

"My child is very happy at school. He is making great progress. The school works well with parents to ensure the child is receiving the very best."

"Very happy with his progress, thank you. God bless."

"Over the years all my children have attended this school. I strongly believe this is a real place of learning."

Parents' Evenings are this week

Year 1's parents' evenings are this Tuesday and Wednesday. Remember to speak to your child's teacher to book a time to come and talk about your child's progress.

We're looking forward to showing you all the fantastic learning your child has been doing in Year 1 this year.

Writing workshops on the Green Ship

We have been redrafting and improving our writing on Quentin Blake's book the Green Ship this week in our writing conferences.

Working with an adult we improved our spelling and worked on improving our writing by using our writing targets. We even  re-drafted some key sentences to make our writing even more fantastic.

What writing target have you been working on?

Underground Designers

Designers at work! We have been designing our own London underground train carriages.

After building our original designs we then  reflected on and talked about what would improve our carriages. After listening to our peers opinions we went on to make our carriage models even better.

What would you put in your underground carriage?

What's beneath our feet?

It's almost time to say goodbye to this term's topic. We've learned a lot about what's beneath our feet.
What's the most memorable thing you've learned this half term?

The Brixton Pound

We've been thinking about our topic next term, which is the Brixton Pound. We've been thinking about what we'd like to investigate and learn about.

What would you like to learn about the Brixton Pound?

Learning from the past

Today Year 1 thought about the past and the present day. We discussed how the London Underground has changed since 1863.

Have a look at past pictures of the London Underground...
Compare these pictures with the underground today.

What is the same, what is different?

School Dinners

Exciting news.
We have a new school dinner menu. It sounds yummy.
What do you think?
What are you looking forward to eating?

Self Assessment

We love reflecting on our learning in year 1. As part of our whole school assessment project we have been thinking a lot about how we learn.  We often self assess our learning. Here is one child's self assessment on what they enjoyed doing in their problem solving maths lesson today.

Can you think of a time when you didn't give up?
What problem did you solve?
