Re-telling the Smartest Giant in Town

This weeks homework is to tell the story of the Smartest Giant in Town to our adults at home. Lots of fantastic re-tellings have been pinging into my inbox this weekend.

Here's one of my favourites!

Wednesday 11 November 2015

Are you taller than the Smartest Giant?

Today children learnt to measure their heights using metre rulers and tape measures.
Do you think you are taller or shorter than the Smartest Giant in Town?
First we tried to get the whole class into height order, not using our voices!
Then we worked in groups to measure our heights.
"I'm 114cm tall!"

Peer Assessment

We have been learning how to be a critical audience in Year 1. This week we worked on our peer assessment skills by telling our friends what we liked about their George the smartest giant in town performances. We also told them what they could consider doing next time to make their performances even better.

What advice would you give to the children in the video?

Maths targets

We have all been working hard towards meeting our individual maths targets in Year 1.

Can you guess what this child's target is?

2D Shapes

We love shapes!
This week we have been learning to recognise and describe 2D shapes.

When we were shape hunters we found lots of 2D shapes around the school. We spotted that the windows were rectangles and some lights were circles. Can you find any of these shapes outside or at home?

Circle               Triangle                  Square                Rectangle                                    Pentagon                        Hexagon?

Challenge:

What shape is being made and described in this photo?

Making bread at Tesco.

Tell me about making bread.

Today we went on a trip to Tesco and made our own bread. We became bread experts by taste testing brown and white bread to see if we could tell the difference. After that we explored the shop floor finding other products made from flour.

What can you tell me about making bread?
