Our Growing Garden

Our Year 1 nature tables are becoming a gardeners delight! All our pea shoots are ready for 'pinching out' to encourage them to grow more bushy.

Over the last couple of weeks we have been growing cabbages from seeds in our garden.

Our cabbages had finally grown this week and we pulled them out the ground. Our chef in the kitchen then cooked the three cabbages for lunch. 

Our cabbage tasted fantastic!

Growing our Garden

After clearing our garden we are finally ready to plant!

Today we each planted sweetcorn and peas.

Outside we planted radishes, rocket, chard and other salad leaves.

Garden Center Trip

To start our learning on our topic Rainforest Plants we visited Croxted Road Garden Center in Herne Hill on Wednesday. We looked at all the different seed that they sold and then used our seed shopping lists to select which we should buy to grow in our Year 1 raised bed garden.

What would you like to learn about rain forest plants? 

Year 1 Scientists

Scientists at work. In year 1 we have been working in the Science Laboratory. We dissected crickets and mealy worms and then looked at them in detail under the microscopes.

 

How did you work like a scientist? What did you find out?

Science week - Insect Investigation

We have been investigating maggots and crickets in Science week. We have been making details scientific observations of them.

Natural History Museum Trip

What a great day we had today at the Natural History Museum. We learnt so much about creepy crawlies and other animals. Here are some photos showing some of our best bits of the trip.

Natural History Museum

On Monday we're going to the Natural History Museum. Where we're going to become scientific explorers doing lots of activities in the museum that encourage scientific enquiry and observation.

We will use our imagination and sense of adventure to explore the museum and learn lots about animals that live beneath our feet.

What are you most looking forward to seeing and learning about?

Science Museum Trip

We had a fantastic trip to the science museum today where we explored lots of materials.We learnt about lots of different materials and made different patterns using a range of materials. We visited their sensory garden and investigated patterns in the pattern pod.  After all our hard work we then role played being animals in the garden.

Science Museum Trip

 On Tuesday 1st December we're going to the science museum to visit their materials gallery. We're also going to become hands on scientists in their Sensory Garden and Pattern Pod.
